Some cultures believe that in war, or facing an enemy and death, it is better to kill yourself instead of them killing you, so you can die with honor. No jump scares, but some sudden gunshots may startle a few shaky viewers. This movie is for adults or older teens who know when they have to shield their own eyes. There is plenty of violence, including bombings, where one man's arm is blown off, shootings, stabbings, and in one scene, beatings. The siege is long-planned for and brutal. The movie takes place on the island Iwo Jima, of course, and Japanese soldiers are trying to guard the fatal checkpoint on the battlefield from American soldiers. Letters from Iwo Jima is a great movie about not giving up and even when things are impossible, keep trying.
